Distressing with Vaseline
This is one of my favorite ways to distress a piece. It is so simple and fun way to achieve a layered look.

Supplies
- Paint and/or Stain
- Vaseline
- Top Coat (Clear Wax)
Step 1
First I apply the base color which can be stained or painted. This layer doesn’t have to fully cover the piece except on the edges. I like to have the base color cover the entire piece so it can, if you choose to, show through the top color a little bit here and there. With the base color dry I then wipe the Vaseline on the edges and really any other place you want your base color to show through.
Step 2
Paint, only use paint in order for this technique to work, and allow your second color to completely dry. The paint will crack where the Vaseline is and that’s ok.
Step 3
Next I took some steel wool and rub it along the edges and/or the areas that the vaseline was placed. To finish off the piece, I add some type of protective top coat depending on what type of paint I’m using. For this particular project I used chalk paint so I finished it of with a clear wax.
Hope this has inspired you to turn something ordinary into a special piece but if you don't have the time to make your own, contact me for a custom piece and let me bring you that A Rustic Rose you've been looking for.
Thank you for spending time with me and until next time....
