A Second Chance...

I can remember walking into my grandmas house and seeing this set of wicker furniture sitting on her covered porch. When she was done with it, it then found a new home on my parents inclosed porch.  It was never something that was eye catching, just always blended in with the surroundings.  My parents remodeled their front porch and didn't have a need for them anymore.  My mom offered them to me.  They were still in good shape just needed a little TLC to make them into something that is eye catching!

A couple of the legs needed rewrapped with some flat oval reed that I found on Amazon.  Now that the legs are fixed, my kids hosed and scrub the pieces to get the dust off and flake away any paint that was loose. I left the furniture in the sun for a few hours to make sure they were good and dry.  Bonus living in New Mexico, doesn't take long for things to dry here!

With the wicker dried, it was time to bust out the spray paint.  There are 2 ways to paint wicker, spray paint or brush on the paint.  I chose to spray paint this time to save time.  I took each piece outside on a big piece of cardboard and took my time coving each piece from all angels.  It is important to spray in several different directions to get into all the crevasses.  I let each piece dry and looked it over closely to touch up any spots that I missed.  After each piece was dry I sprayed them with a clear coat in the same manner I sprayed the paint, making sure again to get into the crevasses.

With a fresh coat of paint it was time to turn to the cushions.  The cushions were in really good shape but the covers were really dated and didn't go with the grey.  I took the old covers and used them for a pattern.  I used a seam ripper to open up the old covers to get the cushions out. I ironed the covers really good so that they laid flat and traced them onto the fabric I chose.  I sewed each cover together and put the cushions in the covers.  With the covers done the whole package has been brought back to life and ready to enjoy this awesome fall weather!
